I was thrilled to be invited to the wedding of my best friend Marina Bisharat’s daughter, Maryam and her fiancé Ibrahim Salloum. After a simply breathtaking engagement party in Amman, the Cortina D’Ampezzo wedding was as fabulous and more.
To get to Cortina, we took an Etihad Regional flight from Geneva to Venice Marco Polo airport, then we rented a car and drove for an hour and 50 minutes to Cortina. As we climbed up into the foothills of the Southern Alps on the way to Cortina D’Ampezzo, we were surrounded by spectacular scenery of greenery and mountains. The air felt so clean and fresh up there!
Once we arrived in Cortina we checked into the Cristallo Hotel. The view from my balcony was outstanding, and I couldn’t resist taking hundreds of photos. The hotel was very warm and cozy against the blanket of snow that still lay on the ground. I really enjoyed the terrace that connected the big dinning areas together; I would step outside with my coffee first thing in the morning to gaze at the scenery and breathe in the fresh mountain air.
The first dinner party had an Enchanted Forest theme, complete with glittering white trees and disco balls. It was so much fun. The band was great and we were dancing all night long.
The next day we took the ski lift to the Col Drusciè restaurant for a “clashing colours après ski” lunch party! Everyone was wearing funky outfits, and the entire atmosphere was vibrant and fresh, surrounded by the snowy mountains. Plants were placed beautifully all over the place inside the rustic, wood-panelled interiors. It was a day filled with laughter, music and good friends!
Finally, the wedding ceremony was at the Basilica Minore dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo, a Roman Catholic church that was built between 1769 and 1775 in the Baroque style, with a high wooden alter. The interior ceilings and walls are adorned with delicate, graceful paintings in pastel colours. The locals were waiting outside the church waving the Jordanian and Lebanese flags to greet them. Mariam looked stunning walking down the aisle In a gorgeous Ralph & Russo dress, with her father Hani Bisharat, and the ceremony was so emotional that I had tears in my eyes! The church ceremony was followed by a wedding reception, dinner and dancing.
The wedding celebrations were absolutely magical: every small detail was catered to perfection. I had such a great time, especially as I was with my close friends. I wish Mimi and Ibrahim all the best and utmost joy in their life together. I must say I left Cortina D’Ampezzo after the farewell brunch with a heavy heart. We had such a wonderful time, and it felt truly special.
